How We Train Our Dog Walkers

We have an amazing team at Colorfuldogs! Let's talk about the type of walkers we hire and how our intense training process works.

First and foremost, new employees come to us with lots of previous pet care experience. Many have done volunteer dog walking for years with local shelters, such as Liberty Humane Society. Or have been working in the veterinary field. Many of our walkers worked for local doggy daycares, or other dog walking compnaies, before making the switch to Colorfuldogs.

That said, Colorfuldogs has developed a specific system over they years. So, even the most-expereinced walker needs to get up-to-speed on how we do things. Our training starts with the new employee shadowing and working with a senior staff member for a minimum of five days. After that, we train them for a few more days with the specific dogs they'll be walking each day. During the five day training period, our walker are taught:

• Basic training techniques
• Basic commands
• Curbing dogs
• Importance of using crosswalks
• Making eye contact with pedestrians and drivers
• How to avoid other dogs on the street
• Puppy training techniques
• Where to dispose of poo bags
• Our software and how to use it
• Proper procedures for keys
• Communicating with clients

These are just a few of the things we teach every single walker who works for us. While we're known for the fun times we have with your dog, handling skills and diligence to safety is what makes those tail-waggin' walks possible.
